Dataquest-IDC survey of T-school in India – 2008

10 Jun

Here they are again … ranking of T-schools by Dataquest & IDC.

The them behind the rankings as always is … Rearrange the IIT’s, Place IIITs,some NITs
and other premier institutes in next 10 places. Then fill rest of the places randomly with the institutes left in hand. 😀

well jokes apart… this is the list of top 20 Technical institutes listed by Dataquest-IDC

Rank 2008

2007 rank

IIT- Khadagpur

IIT- Delhi

IIT- Kanpur

Thapar Institute of Engineering

PSG-college of Technology

M Vishvesvaraya Institute of Technology – Bangalooru

VIT- Vellore

Parameters :- Placement (40%), Infrastructure (10%), Intellectual Capital(20%), Industry Interface (5%), HR Perception (25%)

Miscellaneous aspects of the survey:-
1. IIIT-H stood 3rd in placements and 7th over all this year, just behind the 6 IIT’s.

2. Fall in no. of participating institutes from 117 to 79 this year, although invitation was sent to 300 institutes.

3. Missing this year :- IIT-bombay, BITS-Pilani, NIT Trichi, Jadavpur University, PEC, IIIT-Gwalior, MANIT-Bhopal, DCE, ISM-Dhanbad, NIT-Suratkal, NIT and many more

4. The ranking is done keeping the 2006-07 placements as reference. Hence, the same Schlumberger 45 lac placement at NSIT stands as the highest placement of the year.

5. Interestingly, Bangalooru got maximum 10 institutes in top-79.

6. The list is flooded with the private institutes, most of the places under 30 are filled by them.

7. A Blooper :- On the Website DQ mentioned that they received data from 70 colleges. Although they listed 79 colleges. 😀

PS: – For further Details visit DQ site or buy the latest issue of Dataquest.

PS: — IIIT-H got 3rd place based on 5.4 LPA average last year, I donno where it’ll go with 6.85 LPA average of this year.

PS: — I hope my friends at NSIT will be felicitous this time, After last year’s out burst.

PS: —- What ever people may say, most of the janta do consider Rankings.

after going through the list a few times, i was wondering if govt has dismantled IITB. Read the rest of the post and found out why they placed IIIT at 7th position. Normally its like all IITs and then the rest of the world follows ..

  2. Karan June 11, 2008 at 5:32 am #

Yea.. The survey loses credibility with a lot of instis opting out. Unfortunate, as its the most IIIT friendly survey.

  3. shashank June 11, 2008 at 7:37 am #

“Rearrange the IIIT’s, Place IIITs,some NITs ………… ” – Should this be rearrange the IITs 😛

“PS: ——- Have I told you that House hunt sucks … It so does …..

BITS Pilani Rajasthan which pioneered BITSAT and which has set a bench mark in industry university collaborations is a leader who knows the way goes the way and shows the way and is undoubtedly one among the top ranking universities in India today with a global reputation.

  5. rohan June 11, 2008 at 10:31 am #

@parthasarathy: how do u pioneer an exam ??
and balls @ these or any other ranking

  6. Partha Sarathy June 12, 2008 at 2:48 am #

Rohan which exam in this country gave you choice of date and timings and location? I hope you know that BITSAT is an online examination at least. I think my English is not bad.

  7. wizkid June 12, 2008 at 4:11 am #

the list suckxx they shld give a complete ranking of all the technicals schools in india only d top 20 coll. doesnt make sence…

  8. Sancharan Roy June 12, 2008 at 5:21 am #

IITB, NIT-Trichy, Jadavpur University–all good colleges are missing from the list. The whole survey is too wrong.

  9. anuj June 12, 2008 at 5:26 am #

its the worst ranking i have ever come across.the colleges of bangalore which features in top 20 simply shocks me where is rvce, bms sit tumkur lying in the ranking.go guys do some research.

  10. Ankit June 12, 2008 at 7:41 am #

    As I said 🙂

yeh … xactly … after top 20 … most of institutes in the list are alien to me…

Will talk to after two years … !!

there is a list of all the institutes … go through their Website for that.

    @Sancharan and Anuj
true … and to add to that, there are three colleges from Bhopal in the list, which i had never heard about… And actual popular colleges are missing.
But most of it should be blamed on lack of data …

  11. thomas June 12, 2008 at 4:21 pm #

DQ-IDC publishing this at this point in time would have made sense if the the sample size was much larger, atleast top 5-10 in each state. With so many well known schools missing, this survey establishes that DQ-IDC does not have the required credibility within the tech schools.

Guys its high time that you all grow up. Its so obvious that new colleges are performing better than the usual rusty old n famous colleges. Just havin names such as BMSIT or RVCE or PESIT doesnt make the college come into top 20…!!! N these data quest people are not fools to pick up colleges ramdomly.. !!!

  16. abhishek June 17, 2008 at 4:09 pm #

NIT Calicut better than NIT Warangal. This can be published in a khushwant singh joke book

  17. mintu June 17, 2008 at 5:17 pm #

i think yr ranking system is abtly rht ……its seen to be cool that u r not following a cheating way as other r doing…….i really appr. u.for this

  18. Ankit Yadav June 17, 2008 at 5:54 pm #

wOOt! Faps 2 d Dataquest survey team….u guys deserve a wifive 4 ur gdi survey results…zoom3.
I just hate d India Today grp survey results. Brin’ a book! They release d same results every year n most amazingly we d IITians don’t even get 2 know wen dey came, surveyed n went. Leave d students, not even d profs here hv ne idea of wen d survey actually took place…or if it took place at all ? It doesn’t matter if 2 or 3 students die at IITK every year or whole IITK dies, India Today will keep it at top. Those guys r all fake n corrupt.

I really appreciate ur result guys…awes…keep on kickin’ ur poppin’ fresh results up a notch every year…yadadamean.

    With regards

  20. avinash June 19, 2008 at 8:12 pm #

its really sucking to see such a pathetic survey.Actually this bloody fucking action can’t be termed as so called “survey”.actually what you people do is open publicity of fucking feed back provided by the insties.

  21. shashi June 19, 2008 at 8:25 pm #

how dare this dataquest say its bullshit analysis as a”SURVEY”. I think when you head like”survey of t-schools in india” you can’t leave institutes which dont participate. quality and real ranking is something beyond the horizine of dataquest.
Also dataquest should dare fuck declaring “survey of t-schools in india”
when it blindly ranks its participents on the basis of feedback.

  22. binit kumar sinha June 19, 2008 at 8:36 pm #

Publishing this bullshit popularly known as “survey” dataquest has proved itself a real bastard .te fucking survey has trunketed leading institutes like IIT BOMBAY, and NIT ROURKELA. Its really pathetic. It seems dataquest-IDC takes a huge ransom/donation for publicity of private colleges, and places them in top 20.

  23. Madhav June 20, 2008 at 2:32 pm #

    Hi guys,
I feel that intellectual capital is increasing these days in IIIT-hyderabad. As we can see that no of students who give AIEEE is the highest among all the competitive exams. This time AIEEE(engineering stream) was taken by 8.5lakh students whereas iit-jee was taken up by just 3.2lakh . IIIT-hyderabad closes at (for CSE course) 1700 AIR in AIEEE which is great.
IIT ‘s have the name since they have been established 60 ago. Hence they have a good name . For core courses they are the best.
But in computer science we are not lesser than IIT’s .
Thankx to our tutors and assignments in 1st year which help a lot of programming.

  24. divx June 24, 2008 at 6:01 pm #

This survey is Bollocks, and so is India Today’s. What is surprising is people being so senti about it…

Man!! but I could not stop laughing at this BITs guy @parthasarthy’s comment “who knows the way goes the way and shows the way…..”

His ass really seems to be on fire… 🙂 LoL !!

Dude chill….these are magazines…they publish trash…get over it.

is it true that sir m vishveshvaraya inst of technology bangalore is 17th in the countr………………………………………….

  31. Mahesh July 5, 2008 at 11:17 am #

MVIT and NHCE in top 20?!?!?!..LMAO..
I am uber sure that not one retard graduating from these nondescript schools ever had a chance to attend the same branch in top ones such as BMS,RV and PESIT. I graduated in 2005 and I personally knew botards with ~5000 ranking in CET get GM seat in CSE!!! How screwed up is that??
    K’taka Rankings:NIT-K->{RV/BMS/PESIT}->{MIT-Manipal}->{SJCE/MSRIT/BIT}
MVIT->~15-20 probably; NHCE–?U have got to be kidding me..

  32. Murthy_zap July 5, 2008 at 11:22 am #

    Yeah bro..Completely agree with ur post…To make things worse the MVIT guys put out an ad claiming to be the best in K’taka!!!That’s got to be the joke of the millenium..There is a massive difference in quality wrt the top 3 {RV-BMS-PESIT}
    …and NHCE…commmmmmon…Not a chance to be in top 30 even…

  33. Shilpa B.B July 9, 2008 at 6:38 am #

Without knowing anything about NHCE ,dont give comments like this. have u ever been to this college . just go and see once. time has been changed…
even NHCE is rocking..!! dont just give the comments condemning the colleges

@vishnu.. if u dont knw abt gud coll’s… u hve no right 2 speak.. nd for heaven’s sake stop abusing… dat shows frm whch coll u come frm..
i do agree.. dat rv , bms nd pesit… r for evr nd evr… [i 2 waz a passout frm 1 of these coll’s] but den MVIT… haz regestired… a massive nd a rapid growth.. in placements… hve 1 of ma relative der… trust me he haz already..3 job offers.. dats kool man..!! wer as d coll’s i mentioned… dont let u write other companies once u r placed… nd dats.. not fair.. while MVIT does let u write.. as many companies as u want..
comng 2 NHCE… dont knw nythng much regardng dat coll.. but den heard its pretty gud…I

  35. Intutius July 14, 2008 at 1:05 pm #

O_oh……the scenario doesn’t seem good here.

Anyways, here are my personal comments:

    1. I don’t think NIT Calicut deserves the under 10 place.
    2. Nor NSIT.
3.IIT Bombay did a good decision of not participating in this crap survey.
    4. “IIT Guwahati better than IIT Madras.” One more crap. Everyone knows the reputation of IIT Madras is far superior to IITG.
5.Feels good to see my college at number 2. But since its a crap ranking, I don’t care.
    6. I love IIIT-Hyderabad. One of the most deserving colleges for under 10 places.

    Chemical Engg.
    IIT Delhi

  36. sole renegade July 14, 2008 at 11:11 pm #

get a life u imbeciles!! lame very lame of you to fight over some stupid ranking.
if you have to fight, fight the terrorists….

  37. dfgdf July 18, 2008 at 7:08 am #

fr ppl who think nit calicut doesnt deserve to be in the top 10
pls read tis blog frm a very renowed prof frm iit kanpur n then decide whether he knows better or a person like u who haventt visited the campus knows better

  38. Vivek Pandey July 21, 2008 at 6:15 am #

NITC does deserv a place in T10. IITB should also be in T5.

  39. Sunny Singh mvit 2nd year July 22, 2008 at 6:12 am #

nice 2 see mvit on the list..seeing the rapid growth in placements n infrastructure it surely deserves a place om the list..tanks to DQ for being a mag free from the shackels of old predator coll .

    Come on iitm!!!!

  42. pallav August 23, 2008 at 11:34 am #

smvit deserves ranking go and visit college.rapidly growing.Set to break in top 10 india T-SCHOOLS

  43. Ritesh September 2, 2008 at 11:05 pm #

@Shilpa Aunty: “time has been changed…”..LOL..Feel strongly encouraged to attend middle school English classes..

WRT placements, even BMS and PESIT have two/three tiered placements.Any case, the quality of the company is paramount. Not just run on the mill companies like Infy, TCS, Wipro, Satyam, CTS, Mind tree..
Also, you need to consider legacy. You have a tidy number of people from RV, BMS or even UVCE who have gone one to achieve their Masters and Doctorates from the IITs, IISc, Ivys, Stan and MIT.
I got to graduate from Carnegie Mellon, and trust me ,I haven’t seen one single soul from the cup-level colleges like MVIT or this ‘NHCE’..
All said and done, rotten rankings..
    PS:IIT-M below IIT-G..The sham continues

  44. barot September 3, 2008 at 6:05 pm #

nit warangal must be awarded its deserving place i.e in top 10, dataquest should not include such bulllshits like nit c or other shit lke colleges , all rankings r fake n nothing else……….so frens be chill, take ur own decision, n dont go 4 such fucking rankings……….

  45. Singh is KING September 8, 2008 at 3:41 pm #

    Chill maaro yaar..
We all know that NIT-T, NIT-C, DCE/NSIT,NIT-W,NIT-S,BITS-P,ITBHU,PEC,Thapar..are all among the best Tschools “after IIT” in India…
other colleges like BIT-M/IIIT-A, remaining NIT, DAICT, PSG-tech are also OKayish/good
one college may be better in infra/facilties, placements..other may be taking best students thru enterance exams/AIEEE, getting maximum MS/MBA admits…
I am a 2k5 passedout from a college which is in top 10 list above and trust me after 1 year in industry, you will not be known because of your college but because of your knowledge/what you have learnt!!!

And “anksden” stop opening these kinda sick blogs/posts…wellllaayyy hote hain kya IIITH wale???
    bandiyann patao…aish marooo..kya college-2 rote rahte ho??

  48. @nks September 11, 2008 at 5:01 am #

i donno why !! but i find it so funny that you want to argue over this …

i don’t give a damn bout these rankings, any sane man wouldn’t …

so, why did i publish them here ? … coz most of the janta search for these strings on net and hence more hits more comments … and viola –> Popular.

    जली दिमाग की बत्ती ?

  49. Singh is KING September 14, 2008 at 7:47 am #

    samaj sevak bhai…
yarr most of the junta search for the porn links also…
I request you to do some searching on janta’s behalf n put some links in your me..ur blogs will get 100 times more publicity than this.
look…i am not arguing…point is..that u hv opened this blog in a read/write mode 🙂 this thing you can avoid…so that junta can only look at these crap ranking but not write nything…coz this will normally leads to a useless debates..I’ve seen ppl in even industry divided on the basis of college…so this is really painful to see…and this thing starts somewhere on this kinda blogs….got it???

  50. @nks September 16, 2008 at 5:13 am #

    अगर काम सीधी उगंली से हो जाता है तो उसे टेड़ा क्यों करें ??

and wht is read/write mode … ?? read/write means u can edit what is written … but here u can only comment … can’t even edit or delete your comments …

and bout me publishing the rankings … well if u hadn’t noticed … dataquest is a magazine and they have a website too… link is already thr in the post … if u r so concern bout the effect of rankings on masoom bacche then go tell it to the main source …

n just stop crapping all over my page … !!

  51. Vibhor September 16, 2008 at 3:25 pm #

read-write mode means that one can edit but here blah-2…

“maine ranking nahin chaapi jaj sa’b, DQ ne chaapi”!!

continuing above quotes….Its d business of DQ to get cheap publicity from these crap rankings…seams dat u r trying to get the same!!

by the way….whatzz first “I” stands for in IIITH…is it

    Thanks in advance for clarification!

    nd wht is that:

    2nd yr,Computers,

Don’t u have your own identity … or every time u have to use ur institutes brand name get noticed ??

and the gr8 vibhor, 2nd yr,Computers, Indian Institute of technology don’t know how to do the google search and find out wht ‘I’ stands for in IIIT-H,

    But i think u r not some vibhor from IIT-B but a looser like Singh … wait … u could be sing … yeh u r sing … Coz

    1. no one is jobless enough to argue over this topic other than the gr8 singh …

    2. All the IITian … by that i mean all mention their full college name … not just IIT … if u r from IIT-B u would have written tht here…

    3. The link u gave is to the iit heritage fund. and a 2nd yr CS student would have his own website to link to…

    4. And the way “…” and so many “?” u have used is same as singh

owwhh now i got it … first u were writing a reply to me then u though that why don’t use IIT name and make up a person in support of you …

    Seems, i was all right bout u since the beginning … u r a LOOSER …

    and by the way
do u work for for Coca-cola ? n that’s why u have incessantly been asking me to drink sprite ?

  54. Singh is KING September 18, 2008 at 1:41 pm #

    sharp eye man…
I just checked that your post too contains “??” and “…”
I must say that you are facing a serious problem of split personality 🙂 may be while sleeping you are abusing yourself……

look…..The only intent of myself writing to your blog was just to make you realise that STOP posting thins kinda comments…NOTHING….MUCH (look you have used “…” at head of this blog…u might be SINGH)

aur yaar main vibhor nahin hoon…aur na hi coke walon ki taref se hoon…sachi..per tu nahin manenga. I will let vibhor to clarify this….

last post pe kaafi khundaq kha gaya lagta hai….sorry ankit bhai!!! chill maar na!!

  55. @nks September 23, 2008 at 5:24 am #

    @singh …

are you so jobless … ?? was waiting for me to reply hunn ??

    so … yeh … i’ll continue the “chill maar” thing … !!

  56. PL October 16, 2008 at 11:54 am #

I’d only say…don’t look too much into these rankings. They hardly offer anything substantial. Mostly, they are quite irrational. I would like to direct you to the two following blog articles –

Though, both these articles are written taking India Today rankings into consideration, but they are mostly applicable to all such garbled works.

  57. NSIT_DUDE January 10, 2009 at 6:52 am #

more than 35 NSITian has belled the CAT 2008…see
